Beaches
Various Locations on the Cape

More than a dozen beaches are located in the Cape Cod Area. The beaches north and west of Cape Cod are the safest for children because they face Cape Cod Bay and have the least surf. The south side beaches face Nantucket Sound and have small wave action, but are still safe for little ones. The east-facing beaches on the Atlantic Ocean have larger surf and undertows, which is fun for adults and teens, but children should be supervised.

Lighthouses

Over 200 lighthouses have stood as beacons to help guide and protect ships from wrecks at sea. Seven of these fascinating lighthouses remain functional today. Some lighthouses to see include Nobska Point Lighthouse in Woods Hole, Stage Harbor Light, Chatham Light and Monomoy Light both in Chatham, Nauset Light and Three Sisters Lighthouses in Eastam, Highland Light in Truro, and Race Point Lighthouse in Provincetown.

The Aptucxet Trading Post teaches visitors about the lives of Native Americans and the early colonists. A private railroad station that was built for President Grover Cleveland, who summered in Bourne, is also on the grounds.

John F. Kennedy Museum

The John F. Kennedy Museum is a multimedia museum, which celebrates the president’s days spent on Cape Cod with his family and friends, through photographs, videos and other exhibits.

Chatham Railroad Museum

The Chatham Railroad Museum is housed in an 1887 railroad station. Displays include unusual artifacts, models, and an old caboose from the New York Central System.

French Cable Station Museum

The French Cable Station Museum is located inside the 1891 station that housed the terminal for the first transatlantic cable between the United States and France. Part of the original underwater cable, which relayed messages more than 3,000 miles, and communications equipment are on display.

Scargo Tower is a brick tower that affords a great view of the Cape Cod area. It is located at the top of Scargo Hill, the highest point on the Cape.

Before arriving at Plymouth, the Pilgrims first landed at Provincetown, on November 21, 1620. The Pilgrim Monument was built in 1910 in honor of that landing. Climb to the top for a spectacular view of the area.
